It is a rapidly growingly sector of the construction and civil engineering industry which comprises of a family of sub-surface construction techniques that requires minimal to zero trenching during the installation or rehabilitation of underground pipelines.
Trenchless construction techniques includes but not limited to such construction methods as cured-in place pipe (CIPP), pipe cracking, drilling, sliplining, tite-lining, thermoformed pipe, grout-in place pipe, and mechanical spot repair.
While conventional pipeline rehabilitations have limitations in built up areas where their application is mostly difficult, time consuming, environmentally unfriendly, and very costly due to the need for some demolitions prior to rehabilitation works, trenchless methodologies offers a timely, less infrastructural and environmental disruptive, and cost effective solution.

Trenchless methodologies are utilized for both same size rehabilitation, and upsizing rehabilitation where population growth demands bigger supply, collection, and or discharge pipelines.
The two most applied methodologies for the rehabilitation of sewer, and or water pipeline rehabilitations are cured-in place pipe (CIPP), and pipe cracking. Drilling is applied on greenfield pipeline installation projects.
